Dean Regan is an actor, singer and coach living in Los Angeles, California. His first love has always been Theater where he has played such roles as "Puck" in William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream ; "Antrobus" in Thornton Wilder's The Skin of Our Teeth and "Alan Strang" in Peter Shaffer's Equus . His love for the theatre and music have combined sweetly in productions of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance , as Harold Hill in Meredith Willson's The Music Man and "The Emcee" in Kander & Ebb's Cabaret.
Performances on television include roles on NYPD Blue and a long-running character on the drama Secrets . He has appeared on many soap operas as well. In movies, he will always remember a day spent on the set with the legendary Mike Nichols on the film Working Girl . Dean was also tapped to appear in Mark Wilkinson's award-winning film Dischord.
Dean hails from Chicago, "The Windy City," where his mother and sister still live. His father Willard "Peck" Regan was a master Antique restorer/dealer as well as, in later years, a glazer. His mother, Helen Taylor Regan inspired hundreds of school children as a teacher. Her emphasis and particular fondness was for both Library and Natural Sciences. Dean's brother and his family live in the Boston area, so "Bean Town" often serves as a home-away-from-home.
Growing up in the Regan family gave Dean an appreciation for this country's rich music. His talented energy drew the attention of his teachers who pointed him toward the stage. ("Thanks Mrs. Matthews and Mr. Doverspike!") As a youngster, Dean found "center stage" in many neighborhood productions, as well as around the campfires of Troop 604. "Music Merit Badge" was one of the steps he took on the way to the rank of "Eagle Scout," an honor which less than two percent of all Boy Scouts achieve.
His family, including his sister Rae and brother Scott, have always encouraged him to "reach for the stars" and "give back plenty." In the spirit of doing both, when not on stage, Dean spends much of his time as a Coach to professional students of singing and acting.
After beginning his college education at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa; Dean earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from U.C.L.A. specializing in Theater and English. He planned to teach, but the call to perform was too strong to resist. Dean traveled around the country with the First National Tour of "The Pirates of Penzance" working with Jim Belushi, Maureen McGovern, George Rose, and Peter Noone (of the musical group "Herman's Hermits"). During the tour he was honored to perform at the White House for President and Mrs. Reagan. After the National Tour Dean moved to New York and performed on Broadway. In New York he acted on several Daytime Dramas and Off-Broadway productions. ("And, yes, off-off-off-off Broadway as well!") After several years in the Big Apple, Dean moved to Los Angeles where he currently lives.
When Dean is not ensconced in a theatrical project or teaching, he spends a great deal of time touring the country performing solo concerts. Throughout his career Dean has sung in many top-notch vocal ensembles, as well as forming and directing a few. Eventually, Dean stepped out onto the solo stage, where he has been successfully performing across the country ever since. Crystal Cruises invited him to present a series of concerts on the Inaugural World Cruise of the Five-Star M.S. Crystal Symphony. During the 96-day world tour he visited 32 amazing ports-of-call.
As an actor Dean has appeared on stage, television and film. His numerous credits include performances in Cabaret, The Man of La Mancha, The Music Man, How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Company, The Pirates of Penzance, Equus, Hay Fever, Once Upon a Mattress, Frankenstein, Working Girl, A Few Good Drinks, Dischord, General Hospital and NYPD Blue.
He is a member of all three major actor's unions: Actors Equity Association (AEA), Screen Actors Guild (SAG), and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA). Dean was founding Artistic Director of "The Hollywood Repertory Company" and later became President of the Board of Directors for it's new incarnation: Theatre InSite under the Artistic Direction of Michael Arabian. Currently, Dean is a member of one of Hollywood's most beloved theater companies: The West Coast Ensemble under the Artistic Direction of Les Hanson. Dean is represented exclusively for acting projects by Eric Stevens of Brooks Murphy Stevens Entertainment; and, for the concert stage, by Harmony Artists.
Dean has used his creative talents behind-the-scenes as well. He served as Managing Partner of The Weatherford Group, a production company in Hollywood which produced the wildly successful cable drama, "Secrets;" for which Dean served as staff director and dialogue coach. Dean is also proud to have been the founding Artistic Director of The Hollywood Repertory Company.
Dean loves the outdoors, says he is "too often tied to my computer," and imagines nothing more exciting than the twinkle in someone's contented smile.
