Catherine Davis Cox

Catherine Davis Cox has a three octave range and the ability to float between classical and contemporary music. In 2003 she appeared as the jazz coloratura soloist in Duke Ellington's Sacred Concert at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre. The Beverly Hills Outlook called her "...a major presence, her voice functioning as an instrument without limits, scat singing on the upper end of the spectrum, on pitch and 'with it.'”

Catherine was a guest soloist with the San Fernando Valley Master Chorale and the Crown City Orchestra in March 2005, for Mozart's "Coronation Mass" and Mendelssohn's "Hymn of Praise." The Tolucan Times said, "...Davis Cox had the vocal technique necessary to deliver the difficult arias" with a "voice of pure beauty, especially in the Sanctus (sounding like the “Dove Sono” aria from Mozart's “Marriage of Figaro”). In the “Hymn,” ...again Davis Cox shone in her solo work."

Catherine has been a soloist with conductor Terry Danne's Premiere Chorale and the San Fernando Master Chorale for masterworks such as Handel's Messiah , Bach's St. Matthew and St. John Passions with tenor Jonathan Mack and Mozart's Requiem . For a recent concert of David Fanshawe's African Sanctus , the composer provided a special audio introduction. Last summer she made her debut appearance in the Rutter Requiem under Danne's direction at New York's Carnegie Hall. For A Concert Tribute To Ray Charles , she shared the stage with guest artist and his longtime collaborator, Billy Osborne for Dwight Elrich. Catherine has sung for the Methodist Bishop of California and has been the featured soloist for Dr. Albert McNeil, conductor of the Jubilee Singers, at Founder's Church. Her latest appearance was the Durufle Requiem under T.J. Harper.

She can be heard with The Caroling Company on Brian Setzer's CD "Boogie Woogie Christmas," and has her own CD with her girls' jazz trio The Satin Dolls . She has been the singing voice of many animated characters for HBO and Nickelodeon and was featured in a National Public Radio Irish Christmas special and appeared in The 2003 Christmas Cavalcade for PBS L.A. She is about to do a series of pop concerts with Bob Ralston of the Lawrence Welk show.

Catherine has twice been selected as a quarterfinalist in the category of jazz and gospel in the Savannah Music Festival's American Traditions Competition. She appeared at the historic Lucas Theatre under the artistic direction of Daniel Hope and Festival director Rob Gibson, who brought the Jazz program to Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis. She was also a guest artist at the Savannah First Presbyterian Church. Last Fall she was the invited guest artist for the Homecoming Concert at her alma mater, Knox College.
